why cassettes?



we love cassettes! but why? it’s because they were the first democratization of music! the cassette is miniaturized tape. before cassettes, physical ownership of music was either on vinyl or bulky and expensive reel-to-reel tape machines. the former required an industrial press, and the latter was usually prohibitively expensive or difficult to setup and maintain.

the cassette made tape accessible to everyone! it revolutionized music. it was cheap and easy to acquire the means to record and copy tapes. you could, for example, buy a madonna tape, copy it to another blank tape, and there was no way anyone could stop you!

people would make mixtapes as well. there’s few things more special than receiving a handcrafted mixtape from someone you love! and there’s few things more fun, in our opinion, than making a mixtape!

we are tired of the algorithm, of spotify, of non-physical media. discovering music through mixtapes, on physical media, music that you can literally touch, on analog, magnetic tape, is truly a magical experience, and we would love to share it with you!

don’t have a cassette player? we’ve got you covered!!


it’s hard to find a good quality cassette player these days. they’re kinda like roman aqueducts- we just don’t know how to make them anymore! just kidding.. kinda! but the logistic chains for quality cassette player parts no longer exist and also all the good engineers are no longer in the industry :( bc they’re either rly old now or dead!

luckily, there is a healthy community of enthusiasts who love to acquire and restore tape players and decks! we love to do this, and would like to provide to you vintage cassette players and decks at below market value. they will all be tested and fully functional and affordable!

there is, of course, no way for us to verify this, so we rely on the honor system. we want to help spread cassette culture, and if u believe in building the cassette community, then please refrain from purchasing these players and decks, if you already have the means to play / record to cassette.

in the near future we will be listing cassette players and decks here, so keep an eye out! for now they will be LOCAL ONLY, as we want to provide people within our community the means to listen to tapes.

why not mp3 players or cds?


we will also be providing digital downloads and cds as physical mediums for our releases, but we feel that the analog quality of the cassette is something special- it’s music that you can literally touch! see our guide to tape looping for some inspo (not yet up)! we hope that you will take the leap to experience the magic of the sound of tape and physically touching / owning your music :)
